The plastics crisis can no longer be ignored. Whether it’s beaches littered with plastic, or parts of the ocean full of it, we have to look this problem directly in the eye. As a business are committed to accepting our own role in the problem and in finding solutions.
At goodfood2u we have always worked to minimize our plastic use. We order and pack “nude” produce as much as possible, and when we do use bags, we choose paper, or biodegradeable alternatives, made from corn.
We also encourage our customers to return their carboard boxes to us so we can re-use them. We line them with compostable wax paper, to ensure food safety.
And we can do more!
We know that in spite of these efforts a lot of produce still comes in plastic. English cucumbers and cauliflower are wrapped in plastic to maintain shelf life, berries come in plastic containers to protect their fragility, beautiful local greens come in plastic bags, we know! We are working with our suppliers to find alternatives. This will change, we are on it.
In the meantime, we are super excited to announce that our sprouts and micro-greens from local supplier Covenant Springs will be packaged in a biodegradable corn-based package that also preserves the shelf life of the fragile sprouts. And that we now have a NUDE Produce Box.
The NUDE produce box is filled with produce that was never in plastic. We don’t simply remove the plastic before we deliver it. That’s just not right… We choose only produce that was has been nude since it was in the ground. No contributing to the plastic problem with this beautiful produce.
As the local season comes into full swing, nude produce is easier to find. We look forward to delivering produce, and not pollution to your home!
